Meeting new people on your Alchemy Tulum Retreat and enjoying the sun on a boat day

Getting Ready for Tulum: Your Personal Prep Guide

Date: Aug 11, 2026

It already feels close enough to touch. The sound of palm trees easing you into a morning yoga flow. Golden sand beneath your feet before a surf lesson. The friendly faces of strangers, soon to be friends, that you can’t wait to make memories with throughout the week.

But with all of that ahead of you, it’s natural to feel a flicker of nerves too. What if a travel day goes sideways? What if you forgot to pack the one thing you actually need for an excursion? What if this trip pushes you a little more than you expected? How do I prepare for an active travel experience like Alchemy Adventure Tulum? That mix is completely normal.

We want you walking into this retreat feeling prepared and steady. So here’s your step-by-step guide to make sure it’s as memorable as it should be, and it starts with the right preparation.

Now, your first line of curiosity may be: who else is going to be joining you in a few weeks? What are they like? Why are they here? What kind of person signs up for a retreat in a foreign country all by themselves?

Truth is, we all do. Every single person who signs up for an Alchemy retreat has taken a leap of faith to do something on their own, outside their comfort zone, for whatever reason brought them here, and that’s the one thing you’ll all have in common. Explorers, go-getters, introverts, extroverts, and everything in between, all showing up with the same intention. That is to grow into a stronger, more grounded version of yourselves, together.

So don’t let the “strangers” part dig too deep into your nerves. These will be faces you won’t want to say goodbye to by the end of the week.

And however you show up, however fit, however flexible, however experienced, you belong here. Every flow, hike, strength session, and run is built with different levels and modifications in mind, on purpose. You don’t need to be an athlete to join us. You just need the desire to feel grounded and fully alive. We want everyone moving in a way that serves their body, so however that looks for you, is exactly right.

Now that your nerves about who you’ll be sharing this week with are put to rest, let’s talk about the other question lingering in the back of your mind: how do you actually get your body ready for it?

The good news is you don’t need a rigid training plan or a totally new routine. Tulum’s week is built around movement in all its forms: yoga, strength, hiking, swimming. So the goal isn’t to peak in one area. It’s to walk in feeling capable and ready for whatever the day brings.

With that in mind, here are a few simple ways to start easing your body into the week ahead.

  1. Build your movement habits.

You don’t need to arrive in peak shape, but showing up to your first sunrise yoga flow or jungle gym session feeling completely unfamiliar with movement makes everything harder than it needs to be. A few weeks of consistent walking, stretching, or bodyweight work can go a long way.

  1. Train a little bit of everything.

Our week in Tulum blends yoga, strength, running, walking, and swimming, so there’s no single skill to max out. Combining a mix of mobility work, some light strength training, and time on your feet will serve you better than specializing in one single thing.

  1. Get your legs and lungs ready for the ruins run and jungle gym days.

Not to intimidate you, but these are two of the most physically demanding workouts we have on our schedule. Stairs, inclines, brisk walks, anything that builds a little stamina and cardio now, means you’ll actually enjoy the ocean view while getting a good sweat in.

  1. Don’t skip practicing rest.

Recovery is part of the plan, built into the retreat itself with beach days, a boat cruise, and personal downtime. You might as well get used to actually resting between workouts now, so it doesn’t feel foreign when the schedule asks you to do so.

  1. The week before, ease off.

Let your body arrive rested, not depleted. This isn’t the week to push a new personal best. It’s to have fun, feel good, and make new friends.

Once we touch down, the one thing that matters won’t be the shape you’re in, how much you mentally prepped, or how much you rested your mind and body. It will be that you show up fully, with a clear mind, ready to dive into what’s in store.

Here’s the honest truth about Alchemy retreats: the workouts are unforgettable, but they’re not why people come back.

They come back for the crew. The newfound relationships. For the boat day. For cenote water so clear it doesn’t even feel real. For the sunrise you didn’t know you needed. The dinners around long tables where strangers become the people you’ll text for months and workout with back home. For the feeling at the end of the week. Proud of what you did, and already wondering when you can do it all over again.
